FrootVPN is a recently founded Swedish VPN company with a fresh and inspirational take on the VPN world. They are keen protectors of the freedom of speech and internet privacy, and seek to provide a strong protection for an affordable price. Their service currently houses four servers in four different countries, but they make up for this rather limited server offering with full-fledged support for P2P and torrent activity. They also present a downloadable client for Windows, and some insightful guidelines for setting up the VPN on other platforms. FrootVPN prides itself in their no-log policy, and they won’t save your traffic either. For a small company, they deliver a solid service, so we decided to inquire the secret of their success in an interview. We asked them about their motivation, the advantages and benefits of their service, their take on torrenting, and FrootVPN’s plans for the future.
Why did you decide to start FrootVPN?
FrootVPN was founded in 2014 with the whole idea of providing a free and simple VPN service that gives back every internet user on the planet the right to his, her online privacy. But the maintenance and bandwidth isn’t free for these kinds of services, that’s why we decided to offer affordable VPN subscription packages. We are a bunch of guys who support the freedom of speech and don’t like the idea that VPN providers charge so much money for just a simple proxy, especially since the bandwidth costs nowadays are so cheap.
Why should we rely on FrootVPN and not another VPN provider?
We at FrootVPN are serious about providing the VPN services to our customers with an affordable price. We offer one of the highest data encryptions and continue improving the services that we have right now. Admittedly there are many other VPN providers out there, but we’re sure that our service satisfies the needs of our customers, thanks to the unlimited bandwidth, no-log policy, multiple device usage and many other features. We also offer no NAT – which stands for Network Address Translation – router feature. We want to avoid third-party interception or intervention in any way, and this is just one of our unique features. The same features top VPN service providers have are also present, but we emphasize the lower prices.
How can P2P, file-sharing lovers use FrootVPN?
Downloading different contents is one of the reasons why people use the internet. We have different dedicated servers for P2P, torrent and file sharing usage in four countries, namely the USA, Sweden, Canada and France. One of our best features allows P2P sharing for those who are interested in it, without their fast Internet browsing activities.
Which countries do you consider to be the best to connect to in terms of privacy protection?
Our four VPN server locations offer the same high quality VPN connections and we don’t wish to prioritize. All of them are capable of providing excellent VPN service with no exceptions. In the past, we only had the USA and Sweden servers, but we seeked a way to provide VPN services with more variety for our customers, allowing them to choose which country they want to connect with.
Why did you choose to have your company headquartered in Sweden?
Not only because it is our homeland but Sweden also offers one of the best laws for the protection of and ensures services like FrootVPN are excluded from data-retention laws. Which makes it a perfect spot for VPNs, as there is virtually no way anybody could request any records about our customers at all.
Which new innovations can we expect in the VPN scene in the near future?
The team behind FrootVPN holds it in high priority to make better improvements and additional features for the need of our customers. We would like to release an easy to use software for an effortless connection. Hopefully Elliptic-Curve cryptography to be one step closer to Post-Quantum-Cryptography. With CPUs becoming more powerful with each day, we’re also getting closer to achieve Gigabit OpenVPN connections.
How do you see internet freedom evolving over the next decade?
Internet freedom is one of the best things that we can experience today and to the upcoming decades. While there are many internet security services that keep growing, we can see both negative and positive situations out of it. From our first day up to now, we wanted to see full internet freedom that doesn’t let people commit cyber crimes. We also wish to stave off the blockings from other websites and the geographic restrictions, while supporting the fastest internet services at lower costs. We would like to be a part of the internet world wherein you don’t have to keep worrying about certain things that can hurt your personal information.
Which updates do you have in the pipeline for FrootVPN?
Our team at FrootVPN is working hard to create more features and technologies that improve internet security and online privacy. A user-friendly interface and other additional tools are in high priority too. If you want to be updated about FrootVPN and its upcoming features, you can follow us at our social media accounts.
How do you personally use your FrootVPN account?
I use FrootVPN to keep my personal information private, usually during work or mobile transactions. My computer and phone are both connected to FrootVPN. I also use it to find cheap travel deals for my business trips and it comes in handy when playing games online. I’m really into internet security, but I don’t wish to worry about simple things that can be settled easily with FrootVPN.
Anything else we should definitely know about FrootVPN?
In the near future we will release an Android app, while new servers in the UK, Norway, Denmark and Finland will be available, too.
Huge thanks to FrootVPN for the interview!
